Simmer Pots – A guide to creating Cozy Scents with Magical Intents.

There’s nothing cozier than the smell of something simmering on the stove. Back in the 80’s, potpourri was all the rage. There were tubs of wood chips and herbs soaked in fragrance oil and dyes. There were even tiny crock pots sold for the specific intent of making your home smell wonderful by simmering herbs. That is exactly what a simmer pot is, water and flora simmering on the stove; add your intention and you have a lovely method of manifestation.

The history of simmer pots goes back to when the hearth of the home was actually the Heart of the home. Back then, people were more invested in living with nature and using what nature provided as a source for living. People used flora and fauna for not only food for the body, but healing for mind, body and spirit.

Simmer pots are typically used for a specific intention. However, you can put one together anytime it tickles you. Whether you are working with the energy of the moon, or with specific holidays, your intention mixed with the energetic properties of the flora you choose will support your manifestation. Simmer pots are also a great alternative to candles and incense if you are sensitive to smoke. If you use a little crock pot, then you don’t need to light anything either.

At this point you may be wondering what you can use a simmer pot for.

Most traditional simmer pots are assembled to support an intention, such as abundance, cleansing, protection, love, or healing.

I must suggest that you sit quietly with yourself and ask your heart what it is you need. Once you have recognized what you need, it’s time to do some research. This is a great time for creativity and education for your magical journey

This type of kitchen/hearth magic also incorporates the four elements of air, fire, water, and earth. When integrating the four elements into your work you are balancing and harmonizing the foundations of alchemy. Astrology is the oldest science in our world, second is alchemy.

How the four elements are used during a simmer pot.

Fire – to heat the water and herbs

Air – as the water evaporates, it creates steam and fragrances the air.

Water – to soak the herbs

Earth – the herbs and fruit that grew from it.

The energy of the four elements is used in magic to enhance the energy of our intentions.

Fire – purifying, igniting, cleansing

Air – Intellectual, thoughts, ideas

Water – Emotions, creativity, imagination

Earth- Grounding, secure, stable

Archangels associated with the four elements are:

Fire – Archangel Michael – the warrior

Air – Archangel Raphael – the healer

Water- Archangel Gabriel – the messenger

Earth- Archangel Uriel – prophecy and wisdom

Now, we add the energy of the flora we will be simmering.

Now, I’m going to give you a recipe for a great simmer pot that you can use to raise the vibration of your home that will smell like the holidays and make people smile. But I don’t want you to just use a recipe. I hope that you will begin to use the energy of natural things to enhance the energy of your life.

You will need:

·        A pan to simmer herbs on your stove or a little crock pot.

·        Water enough to fill pot ¾ full

·        1 cut up lime (used for clearing and protecting)

·        1 cut up lemon (uplifts energy and supports pleasant relationships)

·        ½ cut orange (supports attraction and positivity)

·        3 small branches of a fragrant pine (supports regeneration)

·        3 cinnamon sticks (Dispels negative energy, protects and attracts)

·        1 cup of cranberries or – Cranberries (power punch against negative energy)

Once all items are placed into the pot, stir pot clockwise three times and say:

“ Pot of flora, please bring forth

Peacefulness to this space

From east, west, south and north

All strife and anger now erase.”

Bring the pot to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Remember your petition each time you pass the pot. Please keep an eye on this so it your pot doesn’t burn dry.

Once the pot is done, return the flora to the earth by putting it into your garden, or a potted plant.
